While projecting onto a wall or sheet is possible, a dedicated projector screen is designed to provide a flat, reflective surface that enhances image brightness, contrast, and clarity. Painted walls often have imperfections and absorb light, leading to a more dull, less sharp image. A quality screen ensures optimal viewing performance for 4K and beyond.

For true home cinema, an acoustically transparent screen can also be used, allowing speakers to be placed directly behind it. This not only hides equipment neatly but also recreates the cinematic experience of sound coming from the screen itself.

Acoustic screens are designed to let sound pass through while maintaining image quality, but not all materials are the same. The main differences include:

Micro Perforated Screens: Use tiny holes punched in the material. They offer good brightness and sharpness but can sometimes cause slight “moiré” patterns or affect high frequencies.

Woven Screens: Made from fabric with an open weave that allows sound to pass naturally. They typically provide smoother audio performance and avoid moiré, but may slightly reduce brightness compared to solid materials.

Material Quality: Higher-grade acoustic fabrics balance sound transparency with minimal impact on contrast and colour, making them more suitable for 4K and HDR projection.Choosing the right type depends on your projector, speaker setup, and room conditions.
